COMPASSIONATE ACTION

In just a matter of months, Brett lost his job and then discovered his wife, Whitney, had cancer. Their church family provided prayers, meals, transportation, and even financial help.

A year after Brett and Whitney’s difficulties began, their friend Kelley stopped by for one of his frequent visits. “This has been a difficult year for the two of you,” Kelley told Brett.

“Yes, it has,” said Brett, “but we have experienced God’s compassion too. Members of our church helped me find a new job. Our insurance paid most of Whitney’s medical expenses. God sent us caring doctors and nurses. We’ve felt the prayers and support of a loving church family. We actually feel blessed and overwhelmed by God’s compassion.”

How have you experienced God’s compassion while going through times of difficulty?

In the midst of trying times, we may have difficulty seeing how God is acting with compassion and care in our lives. When we look back, though, we can usually see how God gave us strength, patience, and caring friends. We can see how He led us to a stronger, more mature faith in Him.
