Persevering Faith
Lesson Passages: Exodus 13:17-18; 14:9-18,31
BIBLICAL TRUTH -God wants His people to persevere in their faith and encourages them about how they can do so. Commentary by Bob Dunston, Professor & Chairman of the Dept. of Religion & Philosphy at the University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, KY.
In 2007 my parents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The family got together for a wonderful meal of barbecue with all the trimmings. The shutterbugs among us captured many pictures of the event.
Life hasn’t always gone smoothly for my parents. They’ve encountered struggles and suffered losses. But their love for God and each other has enabled them to persevere. Their love and commitment has blessed and inspired our family and many other families too.
Earlier the same year my wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary. Both our parents’ examples of persevering in their love for God and each other continue to bless our relationship. We want to pass that example and heritage on to our children.
What relationships have you maintained through the years? How have those relationships been challenged and how have you persevered in maintaining them?
Believers’ relationship with God is a personal relationship similar to a marriage or friendship. Difficult circumstances can cause tension in our relationship with God, leading us to wonder if God really knows what we are facing. In such times we need to persevere in our faith despite our fears and doubts.
