Spiritual Preparation Through Personal Bible Study - by Stephen Carlson who served 10 years as an editor for Lifeway Christian Resources & 2 years as managing editor of Holman Christian Standard Bible.

The concept of God as Father is more fully developed in New Testament Christianity, though there are hints of this in the Old Testament (2 Sam. 7:14; Ps. 2:7,12) and ancient Judaism. Jesus especially emphasized God as Father, and He did so in two main ways: (1) the unique relationship Jesus has with God as His Father, as seen in passages where Jesus referred to “My Father” (Matt. 7:21; Luke 10:22; John 5:17; 6:32) or “the Father” (Matt. 11:27; John 5:19-26); and (2) God as Father of all those who follow Christ (Matt. 5:45,48; 6:1,4). Jesus prayed to the Father (Matt. 11:25; John 17:1)—which clearly shows that there is a distinction of Persons between Father and Son—and He taught us to do the same (Matt. 6:9; John 16:23).

Record words or phrases that represent a positive image of “father” for you.

Record words or phrases that represent a challenge or negative image of “father” for you.

Having a relationship with God involves all three Persons of the Trinity.....When we know God as Father in the way the Scriptures teach us that we should, we will have a greater appreciation of His greatness and the wonders of our salvation that He provided for us.
