SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON - SEPT 21ST

“Time keeps on slipping into the future.” “If I could save time in a bottle.” “How time flies!” “Time’s a’wastin’.” Our generation, like those before us, painfully realizes the relentless march of time. Yet, somehow people seem to think they will always have time to make things right with God. Unfortunately, many will discover too late that they have waited too long and have run out of time.

Here’s a game to play next time you are sitting in a doctor’s office, walking the shopping mall, or attending a large sporting event. Observe the strangers around you and try to guess which ones are Christians and which ones aren’t. It’s not much of a game, though, because you can never guess accurately. Why? For the most part, Christians and non-Christians look alike. There is the occasional T-shirt with a Christian message or the one that offends good taste. Christians walk the same, use the same type of cell phones, and eat in the same restaurants. On the surface, they often can be hard to tell apart.

We are going to study a parable in Matthew 25:1-13 about 10 virgins who carried all the same markings. They were young women given the honor of serving in a wedding party. On the surface, they looked the same, but the level of their preparation made all the difference. It’s the same for people today.

Some may think they “look” like Christians, and they might. The only real distinction may be that believers have made adequate preparation for Jesus’ return and nonbelievers have not.So

Jesus emphasized in His parable the need to be prepared at anytime for His return. Our September 21st lesson will help us take steps to see that we are prepared to meet Jesus and to encourage others to prepare as well.
