BIBLICAL TRUTH - We are to practice Christian morality because such behavior has a positive impact on our churches and our lives.
Introduction - Commentary by Terry Ellis, Senior Pastor of Spring Hill Baptist Church, Mobile, AL.
“If God is going to forgive me anyway, why should I not have an affair?” When I heard those words, I was taken aback. I wasn’t sure whether the man was posing some kind of “gotcha” question or was searching for any justification he could find to continue in an immoral relationship. In either case, the question seemed to reflect a willingness to abuse God’s grace. It also called for a positive response on why believers are to consistently practice Christian morality.
Do you think Christians today face more moral challenges than a generation ago? Why or why not? How do you resist temptations to engage in immoral practices?
Most Christians agree wholeheartedly that we should behave in a moral way, and most do. However, we should never underestimate the temptations church members face in today’s culture to engage in immoral behavior. As believers, we need to have a plan for dealing with moral challenges and for resisting temptations. We not only need to reject sinful actions but also need to embrace positive, sound reasons for living in a moral ways.
