When You Have Difficult Decisions

 Leon sought my input about a crucial life change he faced. “I’ve been offered a major promotion,” he said. “But it means moving my family to Colorado.” He continued, “I grew up in this community. My family loves it here. Our parents live here. I don’t really know what to do.”

 Leon recounted some of his thoughts about the decision-making process he had worked through thus far. He used a family meeting around the dinner table one evening to get feedback from his wife and children. He made a list of positives and negatives related to the potential move. He asked a number of trusted friends their opinions. Now he wanted me to tell him my thoughts. I suggested to Leon that in his process of deciding that he consider prayerfully what God wanted.

 Decision making happens daily for all adults. Most decisions relate to the mundane things of life. Occasionally, however, adults face difficult decisions related to such things as job pressures, family concerns, or moral choices. At those times, making the right choice can affect a number of people. The process used in making those choices influences whether a decision is best for all involved. Jesus’ example teaches the importance of decision making in light of God’s will.
