How to Develop Your Faith
Lesson Passages: Mark 8:11-13,16-21,27-33
BIBLICAL TRUTH
Only when we are open to spiritual truth will we be able to develop our spiritual understanding. - Commentary by Darryl Wood, Pastor of Vincent First Baptist Church in Vincent, Alabama.
Prissy approached her Sunday School teacher with a concern. Her fiancée, although a Christian, practiced his faith in a different denomination than she. Her soon-to-be husband had explained to Prissy the specifics of what his faith meant to him. “Now he wants to know about my beliefs,” she said. “I know that Jesus is my Savior, but I’ve never tried to explain to someone in detail what that means to me. Will you help me?”
The Sunday School teacher gladly assisted Prissy as the eager young lady sought to grow in understanding her faith. They engaged in some discussions that gave Prissy the chance to verbalize her beliefs. Soon she was able to explain those beliefs to her fiancée.
How have the questions of others challenged your understanding of your faith? How have those challenges aided your spiritual growth?
Many believers accept Jesus as Savior but fail to mature in their understanding of what He means to them. They take faith for granted. Spiritual growth, however, involves an ongoing effort to understand spiritual truths.
