Why Did Jesus Come?
Lesson Passages: ?Luke 2:8-15,25-35
BIBLICAL TRUTHJesus came into the world to offer us salvation, but we are accountable for how we respond to His coming.
Do you know any real-life versions of Luther Krank? Luther, the main character in John Grisham’s book, Skipping Christmas, saw his daughter off for a year’s service in the Peace Corps. Her absence at Christmas changed Luther’s perspective. He decided to spend the money reserved normally for Christmas celebrations on a cruise with Nora, his wife. No tree, no decorations, no parties. Just a cruise.
Then chaos struck. Their daughter called unexpectedly on Christmas Eve to announce her soon arrival with a surprise—a fiancĂ©. The Kranks immediately jumped into overdrive. A conflicted Luther ultimately decided to cancel the cruise and to reinstitute, in short order, the traditional Christmas events.
Many people refuse to associate Christmas with the miraculous birth of Jesus. They do not know Him personally. Some believers, however, also fail to make Jesus the center of attention in their Christmas celebrations Do you find yourself conflicted at Christmas? How do you keep your focus on the real meaning of the birth and ministry of Jesus this time of year?
