God Is Great

BIBLICAL TRUTH
God alone is great and worthy of our praise.

 Virtually every night, my wife and I watch the evening news. Usually the broadcast includes local and national news, regional weather, and sports.
 Yet we often hear little life-changing news. In fact, sometimes we wonder if the networks and stations are merely having to fill the time for the evening news. Seemingly, they often have a “slow news day” and include material that’s not very important.
 We often hear a great deal about celebrities. Media outlets bombard us with stories of what celebrities were wearing, their most recent public outbursts, and the people with whom they are romantically involved. Many adults find themselves obsessed with the lives of these people who often make little or no substantive contribution to society; they are merely celebrities, nothing more. Unfortunately, in our culture, those with fame, fortune, and beauty often become our new models of greatness.

 Who would make your list of the world’s ten greatest people? What would you say are the five greatest events of the past 50 years? How would your Christian faith shape your choices?
