BIBLICAL TRUTH - The Lord expects His people to recognize and submit to His discipline in their lives.

The name Benedict Arnold is synonymous in United States history with the act of treason. Ironically, Arnold was considered a brave patriot and hero during the early years of the Revolutionary War period. However, he became increasingly frustrated and bitter as a result of being passed over for military promotions by the Continental Congress and of being repeatedly charged with corruption by personal adversaries.
In 1778, Arnold was appointed as military governor of Philadelphia. He began using the office to profit personally from war-related supply movements. His extravagant lifestyle in the city’s social circles was well-known. However, his political enemies eventually amassed enough evidence to publicly charge him with corruption. By 1779, Arnold already was in secret talks with British agents to provide vital information about the American troops in exchange for money. He eventually became a general in the British army and managed to escape to England after the war, but his name became a byword in America for selfish treason.

The Scriptures affirm that God never stops loving His people. When they are selfish and disobedient, God lovingly disciplines His people in various ways to draw them back to a right relationship with Him.
