The choices we make in life are like windows into our character. If we consistently choose things that only benefit ourselves, we demonstrate that our lives are centered on our own interests. We often see young children act this way because at that stage they don’t think much past the immediate satisfaction of their wants. Adolescence also can be a stage marked by self-focus, but some teenagers begin to demonstrate a healthy ability to put a greater good ahead of their own desires.
I sometimes wonder how many big choices people have made in their lives through a process of making smaller decisions that led up to the big ones. Many decisions may seem small at first, yet all our decisions eventually reveal what our priorities are.
Consider two or three decisions you made recently. What do these choices reveal about your priorities? What decision are you facing now or soon that involves considering a greater good?
Making the right choices in life requires godly wisdom. But one characteristic of wisdom is that it is acquired through experience. Godly wisdom comes as the result of many choices that we as believers make as we travel through life. Because we live in an age of so many distractions and entertainment options, we often do not take much time to reflect deeply on how we are living our lives and how we are making decisions.
